Aventail Partners with Encentuate to Deliver Best of Breed Secure Remote Access with Easy, Two-Factor Authentication

Encentuate's Mobile ActiveCode provides token-less two-factor authentication to Aventail's SSL VPN using phones and PDAs

Seattle, WA—December 4, 2006 - Leading SSL VPN provider Aventail today announced its partnership with Encentuate to provide mobile users with easy remote access to business-critical information—anywhere, anytime—while retaining the highest level of network security. The joint solution combines the secure remote access capabilities of Aventail's SSL VPN with Encentuate's token-less, two-factor authentication for strong authentication security. According to security experts, organizations need to use two-factor authentication to increase their security, but most organizations have not adopted it because of the associated costs and hassles of deploying tokens. Now, organizations can use the Encentuate/Aventail joint solution and enjoy the benefits of providing "anywhere access" to users with the security of two-factor authentication and robust access controls, easily and cost-effectively. Optionally, organizations can also leverage Encentuate to provide single sign-on to web, desktop, and legacy applications that are accessible over the Aventail SSL VPN.

"Our partnership with Aventail gives organizations an easy way to increase the security of the Aventail solution," said EK Koh, vice president of products and alliances at Encentuate. "Our goal is to provide the market with the best identity and access management solution possible. The combined solution helps us enable easy and secure remote access to corporate information for end users without the need to provision and administer tokens."

"We chose to partner with Encentuate because of its token-less two-factor authentication solution, which leverages existing phones and PDAs," stated Sarah Daniels, VP Marketing, Aventail. "We are delighted that our customers can now take advantage of their solution—adding strong authentication to the long list of security benefits that Aventail's remote access control already provides."

Aventail and Encentuate's solutions work together so that only authorized users have secure remote access to corporate networks. When the user first logs in to the Aventail SSL VPN, the Encentuate solution automatically delivers a one-time password through SMS on the user's mobile phone or other preferred channels such as email. The user then enters the one-time password, and if the user's credentials are valid, the Aventail SSL VPN then checks the identity and health of the user's device, and, according to corporate policy, provides the user with controlled access to corporate applications and resources.

The joint solution benefits include:

  • Highly-secure and transparent access to all network resources from any environment or device for all users.
  • No extra tokens to deploy, replace or administer, saving time and money
  • Increased security of two factor authentication with one-time passwords
  • Users conveniently receive their one time passwords over a channel of their choice—mobile phones, PDAs, or email
  • No need for client software to be installed.
  • Support for other identity and access management features such as single sign-on and user provisioning

The joint solution is immediately available through both companies and their authorized resellers. For more information go to: http://www.aventail.com/partners_providers/technology/profiles.asp#encentuate
